Internet Broadcasting Systems Reports Record Activity Levels for its Desktop Alert

The MyWeather-powered, station-branded desktop application informs viewers during breaking local news and severe weather

Madison, WI, March 17, 2004 -- Internet Broadcast Systems (IBS), a leader in the convergence of local television and the Internet, and MyWeather LLC, which supplies online weather services to over 550 web sites, announced today that Desktop Alert--a desktop application that alerts for breaking news and severe weather--has surpassed 165,000 downloads at IBS-affiliated television stations.

Powered by MyWeather technology, Desktop Alert advances IBS' mission of delivering timely information to people while they are at work, away from their televisions. "We're able to use Desktop Alert to proactively grab viewers' attention, alerting them to critical news and weather information," said Nancy Cassutt, IBS Vice President of Content. "With 35,000 new subscribers in January alone, Desktop Alert has become a significant traffic driver to our partners' sites and has the potential to be a valuable promotional tool to drive on-air viewership."

IBS licenses Desktop Alert to its affiliated stations, which let their viewers download the station-branded alerting system for free. When a local breaking news or severe weather event occurs, the desktop icon chimes and changes color. Linked with the IBS content system and the MyWeather alert servers, critical information is delivered instantly, drawing people to the host station's web site.

"We worked closely with IBS to develop and deploy the service to support each station's business," said MyWeather President Matt Peterson. "Viewers appreciate the ability to stay connected to the station online, even at work, and are pleased when they discover how the application integrates seamlessly with IBS content and other MyWeather services."

MyWeather operates the Desktop Alert and Premium Weather paid content program to 39 IBS-affiliated stations, provides weather imagery to all IBS station web sites and licenses its market-exclusive Personal MicroCast? to select IBS stations.

"MyWeather has proven to be a valuable partner," said Cassutt. "They really know how to harness weather to drive business objectives."
